Public access to the North Bosque River at Delmar Ranch Road and Deer Run in Valley Mills may be closed soon after a vote in yesterday’s county commissioner meeting passed.

The state riverbed is public land, but sometimes the paths to get them are not.

Nearby homeowners say there has been too much littering, too much noise and too much confrontation with river goers in the past few years.

Last week they asked the court to shorten the county road by roughly 100 feet.

Today the court complied.

Public advocates are considering a lawsuit to keep river access open, which has been available dating back to Mexican law.

Bob Hanley, a local lawyer who frequents the river, is vowing to keep the site open to everybody who deserves it.

“Let’s address the criminal problem,” said Hanley. “Let’s find out what it is. These few people who are littering, being rude and being stupid are causing problems for the vast majority of us who are simply trying to enjoy a recourse that the public has had a right to for as long as I can remember.”
