COLLEGE STATION -- With a disappointing losing season and a slew of coaches over the last nine years, Aggie fans weren't too surprised when coach Mike Sherman got the boot.
Now with a new head coach, the Aggies are hoping they can turn their luck around.
Fox 28' s Lauren Holman spoke to some of the players who say Sumlin is just what the Aggies need as they head into the SEC.
When news first broke that Mike Sherman was fired, junior wide receiver Uzoma Nwachukwu, wasn't shy about his feelings tweeting quote, "Way way way beyond livid. Furious."
But things have changed now that Kevin Sumlin is the Aggie's head coach
"He seems like he's pretty fun and he likes what he's doing," said Nwachukwu. "He seems to enjoy what he's doing, you know and I think that's pretty cool to see his excitement and the way he carries himself."
While Sumlin might be a stranger to the players, he isn't a stranger to Aggieland. In fact, he's been here before, as the Aggie's offensive coordinator and linebacker Damontre Moore says that helps ease his nerves.
"You don't want someone coming in who's kind of mulling around so if he's upbeat we're going to feed off coaches as players and that's what we've got to do to follow him."
A smooth transition as the Aggies head to the SEC and yell leader, Patrick Ivey, says that's exactly what A&M needs to be successful.
"Coach Sumlin I think has, you know, the energy and enthusiasm to really transition us well and get us off to a good start as we move into a whole new ballgame," said Ivey.
And Sumlin agrees, "Like I said, I didn't come here to do anything but win."
