Authorities suspect dangerous man hiding in Waco

Waco police are searching for a wanted man after he punched an officer during a traffic a stop.

On July 30 a Euless officer pulled over a vehicle driven by 34-year old Ruben Ortiz Jr. During the stop, Ortiz became extremely nervous. For safety reasons, the officer decided to handcuff Ortiz. However, as Ortiz was being handcuffed, he punched the female officer in the face and fled. The officer received several injuries from the assault and due to those injuries is still not able to return to work.

Ortiz is wanted for parole violation with an original charge of aggravated robbery, failure to appear on a DWI case and aggravated assault on a police officer. Ortiz has made comments that he will kill any officer that tries to stop him.

Since the assault on the Euless Officer, Ortiz has been spotted in the Waco area with family members and friends. Ortiz also lives in San Antonio and may be traveling to and from that area as well..

Ruben Ortiz Jr. is considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information can contact their local Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 254-753-HELP. Callers do not have to reveal their identity
