BRYAN -- The dogs and cats of Brazos Animal Shelter have something to be excited about, a new home.
The animals were moved today to a newly constructed facility. The new 17.5 acre shelter offers more space, so overcrowding won't be a problem.
Acting executive director, Melissa Ball, says the extra room will have many benefits.
"We now have two different places to house animals. We're going to have some more space, where rather than just have this one building, and that's really exciting for us because we now have an opportunity to house animals longer, hopefully get them adopted or hopefully have more time for their owners to reclaim them."
Other new additions to the shelter include a barn-like structure housing non-domesticated cats, large outdoor dog runs and more.
Because of the move, the shelter will be closed until it reopens at its new location off Leonard Road on July 5th.
