BRYAN -- A Bryan man is arrested and six others cited after a worried neighbor called police about possible cockfighting.
When officers arrived to the home in the 700-block of East 24th Street Saturday, they found what appeared to be an organized cockfight.
54-year-old Antonio Hernandez-Gonzalez, the homeowner, was arrested and charged with cockfighting.
Police tell us they found more than thirty roosters and chickens all in poor condition but Hernandez-Gonzalez told police the animals were his pets and denied that they were being used for fighting.
"The living condition of them is apparently very muddy and very wet over there and they want to make sure these animals are well taken care of and there is a large number of animals as well," said Officer Jon Agnew.
Animal control is continuing their investigation into the animal cruelty charges and some or all the roosters and chickens may be seized from the property.
