Burglaries on the rise during holiday weekend
COLLEGE STATION -- Burglaries went up this holiday weekend while students and families were out of town, keeping College Station police busier than normal.
Over the weekend there were eight car burglaries. Six of those in one apartment complex -- The Trails at Wolf Pen Creek.
There were also ten home break-ins and police say they aren't surprised. The criminals stole GPS devices, gaming consoles and even a check book.
"It's hard to take a big television with you so it's a little bit harder for someone to steal. They are going to look for something that they can grab and go. If they have a little bit more time they may steal the larger items and it does happen every now and then," said Officer Rhonda Seaton.
Officer Seaton says one way to prevent burglaries is to always make sure you lock your doors and windows, keep a light on and record your electronic's serial numbers so in case it is stolen, police can return it to you if found.
