Shortly before midnight Thursday, Waco police began a car chase that ended in a fatal wreck.
The chase ensued after a car did not pull over during a routine traffic stop and took off at high speeds. The officer eventually pulled off the chase because of reckless driving by the suspect.
The driver continued to head north on 11th Street where they lost control and struck a telephone pole at the intersection of North 11th Street and Columbus Avenue. One woman was ejected from the car and died along with a male passenger. One man did survive the crash and fled the scene.
Detectives were able to get the name of a possible suspect who was currently being arrested on unrelated charges. The suspect has been questioned, but not charged at this time.
The investigation is ongoing.
Names of the victims have not yet been released, pending an autopsy.
