CASA to branch out from under longtime partner Advocacy Center

WACO -- The CASA foster care program is splitting from it's longtime partner the Advocacy Center for Crime Victims.

The program fosters children during court proceedings and officials tell us the reason for the move is to create their own identity and attract more support and volunteers.

"Last year there were 546 children in the two counties we serve which are McLennan and Hill. We served 253 of those children which is wonderful and we're very proud of that but there were still 294 children who did not have a casa volunteer," said Susan Burt, director of the CASA program.

CASA will need to find a new office and its own board of directors.

Both groups are looking to complete the transition by September 1.
