COLLEGE STATION -- An intoxicated babysitter is arrested after officers say he fired a gun off inside the home and then lied about it.

26-year-old George Stokes was seen walking down Victoria Avenue in College Station late Saturday night with an infant.

When someone stopped to help, Stokes claimed the house he was sitting for had been robbed but when officers arrived and took Stokes back to the home, more than two miles away, they found no sign of forced entry.

"What they found was that his stories really appeared to be inconsistent," said Officer Rhonda Seaton. "He told numerous stories and the officers determined that they believed that he had accidentally discharged a weapon in the house and then fled the residence with the child."

When officers were booking Stokes at the College Station Police Department, he became uncooperative and they had to use a taser.

He's charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
