COLLEGE STATION -- A major accident in College Station has left a woman in the hospital tonight.

The accident took place this morning at the intersections of Texas Avenue and Manuel Drive.

25-year-old, Brandon Lemley, struck 30-year-old Nicole Taylor while driving north on Texas, in the outside lane.

An initial investigation determined the jeep Lemley was driving had a green light at the intersection.

Witnesses say as the jeep approached, Taylor stepped off the sidewalk and into the path of the car.

Police urged drivers to avoid the area during the investigation.

"You have people who aren't paying attention because they are trying to look at what's going on and that's just human nature so when they aren't paying attention to the vehicles in front or behind them sometimes they cause secondary crashes because they are paying attention to the police lights," said public information officer, Rhonda Seaton.

Investigators determined that Taylor failed to yield the right of way to the vehicle. Taylor was taken to a local hospital with a possible broken back.

The CSPD will continue to investigate the incident further.
