HEWITT -- This morning FedEx Ground held a groundbreaking ceremony for a new distribution facility which is to be built in Hewitt.

The 102,000 square foot facility will double capacity in Central Texas with 96 van positions expandable to 120.

In addition an increase of 7,500 packages can be processed hourly.

But most importantly, Roy Pittman, FedEx Ground Managing Director, said he hopes to bring in more jobs with the new facility.

"Our existing staff will come over and then beyond that will depend on our volume, the customer demands and if that grows, then we will add, we will add more people to support the, demand. Based on current trends, it should grow," said Pittman.

Pittman said the new facility will provide faster delivery by sorting packages faster which allows drivers to get on the road quicker.

The new center is part of a nationwide expansion.
