Police say there are many safety tips that parents and children should follow, to ensure a safe and enjoyable trick-or-treat season.

Police say it is important for all costumes, shoes, and treat bags to be safe. Trick-or treaters and parents should know the route that you will take, and know people at each house you stop at. They say it is important to carry a flashlight or a glow stick to be more visible.

The Spirit Halloween store, in Waco, sells flashlights that can glow or flash in case that child is feeling like their in danger. The light also offers a whistle that the child can use if they feel frightened.

Police also say to teach children to never go into a strangers home for any reason, and inspect all candy before eating.

Most importantly, police say to drive slowly all evening, because you never know when someone could cross in front of your path.
