WACO -- Today two dangerous dog attacks happened in Waco.
First an officer was forced to shoot a pitbull charging towards him then an elderly man was also attacked by two dogs and one of them was a pit bull.
Around noon today, 68-year-old John Thomas Evans, a handicapped veteran, was walking in the 900 block of Bosque Blvd when a german shepard mix bit Evans in the lower back just before a pit bull attacked as well, biting Evans on the head.
Animal control officers have since seized the two dogs and they've been impounded.
But officers say the heat may be the cause for these violent attacks.
"During the heat, you know they're already stressed so they get a little bit more aggressive. and also when the females come into heat, they get more protective over the females. and unfortunately when there's two of 'em, you know, they get into a pack mentality," said Luis Leyva, of the Waco Police Animal Control.
Evans was taken to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center and police say the owners of the dogs will be cited for not having them locked up and may possibly receive more citations after further investigation.
