WACO -- It's that time of the year again, school is back in session which means school zone traffic laws are back in effect.
Officials say be sure to watch the lights and warning signs around schools as they may have changed from last year.
And there are a few things to remember when driving in school zones that may have been forgotten during summer break.
"Cell phone usage in schools has recently been acted where it is illegal to use a cell phone. Pretty stiff penalties on that, and we're going to be watching for not only people speeding in school zones, but for also people that are talking or using their cell phone while they're in a school zone," Waco PD Information Officer Sgt. Swanton said.
Fines can be upwards of two hundred dollars or more depending on how fast a person is going in the school zone.
Fines are also given out to those using their cell phone in school zones.
