KILLEEN-- One day later, people living in a downtown Killeen neighborhood are still trying to figure out what happened to the home at 707 Root Sunday morning.

They say they heard what sounded like gun shots, fireworks, then, they saw flames.

Police tell us they received a suspicious persons call on Root Avenue just minutes before.

"The officers were told it was two males that were wearing dark clothing walking around the residence and possibly burglarizing the residence," Carroll Smith said with Killeen Police Department.

When police arrived that morning, the house was already in flames.

"When the fire department also arrived, they started putting the fire out and found a deceased male inside the residence," Smith said.

The body was sent to Dallas for autopsy to determine how the man died.

Monday afternoon, police found the homeowner's missing Chevy truck abandoned on the 800 block of Northside Drive.

However, the identity of the body, the cause of the fire and if anything was stolen is still unknown.
