WACO -- McLennan county EMS gathered at a memorial Tuesday  to kick off National EMS Week.

Dozens who died in the line of duty were honored as people spoke out about the dangerous job as a paramedic.

Emergency Medical Technicians go through extensive training to handle every emergency situation possible.

EMT Instructor Steve Walker says paramedics care so much about saving lives that they'll risk their lives to do it.

"Sometimes we will take the chance if we think, oh I can make it, and get one more person out. Unfortunately, that may not be a good thing to do," says Walker.

Local EMTs are the people out there at car wrecks, fires and any other emergencies in the city.

If you want to show your support, there will be an EMS fair at 7601 Steinbeck Bend this Saturday starting at 11 a.m.
