COLLEGE STATION -- Right now several Central Texas organizations are doing everything they can to make sure under-privileged children in the Brazos Valley have a merry Christmas.

It's not just a big city problem, it's a problem everywhere.

"We have a large low-income community. We have a lot of folks who are under employed, who have two or three jobs and there is poverty in this community, in both Bryan and College Station," said Daniel Hernandez, of Hernandez Law Firm.

And when you're just trying to make sure your family doesn't go hungry, worrying about the holidays is a low priority.

So to make sure all the kids in Central Texas get a jolly Christmas, several local organizations and businesses are hosting donation drives to help make this holiday season a little brighter.

Hernandez said, "People tend to be more in the mood to give because I think for a lot of folks they understand what it is to receive."

The Hernandez Law Firm has team with Hillier Funeral home and are collecting food.

And the 28th annual Brazos Valley "Make a Smile Happen" radio thon is collecting toys so the more than 5,600 kids in need will have at least one present to open on Christmas morning.

"They can drop off new toys if they are out Christmas shopping. They can buy an extra toy or two for us and drop those by when they are out this weekend and then we can also take cash to go buy toys ourselves," said M*A*S*H volunteer, Elizabeth Martinez.

The Radio M*A*S*H will be collecting toys through Monday morning.

The Bryan police department is also collecting gently used and new toys for Blue Christmas. You can drop those off at the police station or at:

CVS Pharmacy, at S. Texas Avenue and E. Villa Maria

The Isle at Watercrest at Eastchester and F.M. 158

Secure Care Storage, 2306 S. College Ave.

St. Teresa Catholic Church, 1212 Lucky St.

The Independence Harley-Davidson Toy Run is taking place this Saturday, December 3. Stuffed animals are needed. For more information, go to independencehd.com/toyrun.htm or call 690-1669.
