Just last year, there were 344 car accidents in McLennan County that involved alcohol, and 15 people from the area were killed as a result of these accidents.
Right now there are only six taxi's in Waco, and some students say it is hard to find a safe ride home. Several students say they would take a taxi if there were more available, and more convenient. Kayla Foots, Baylor University student says, "People wouldn't have to drive. People wouldn't have to find rides, and we wouldn't risk having drinking and driving accidents."
But the local cab service says the main issue is bars over serving their customers.
Reita Hill, with Mothers Against Drunk Driving says its all about personal responsibility. She says, "Its not up to someone else to make those responsibilities for us. It's up to us individually to make that responsibility of how we get home."
Right now, there is not a plan to add any safe ride home programs for this area. Officials just ask that you drink responsibly, and always have a designated driver.
