WACO -- Thanks to new sentencing guidelines, prison doors will be opening early for thousands of inmates convicted of crack cocaine charges.

The Fair Sentencing Act passed by congress in 2010 changes the 100 to one disparity between minimum sentences for crack and powder cocaine to 18 to one.

The Sentencing Commission estimates the penalty reduction means more than 12,000 inmates are eligible to request reduced sentences.
