COLLEGE STATION -- School starts Monday for both Bryan and College Station and there are still thousands of kids in the area without basic school necessities.
So one local organization is asking the community to donate what they can so these students can have something to call their own.
You can donate anything from pencils, pens even backpacks and Cedric Payton, with the Concerned Black Men of the Brazos Valley, says it's crucial for these students to feel like the community wants them to succeed.
"It's showing them that we're empowering them, that the community is empowering them. We want something good to come out of Bryan-College Station and everything that we can do as a community and as a whole, as an extended family is going to help them achieve that," Payton said.
To celebrate the start of the new year and to pass out the donations, the Concerned Black Men organization, will be hosting a back to school party tomorrow afternoon at the Veterans Park and Athletic Complex in College Station from 10:00 to 2:00.
And Payton encourages everyone to come out.
