COLLEGE STATION -- The College Station and Bryan police departments are warning you that both departments have had recent reports of telephone scams demanding money.
The scammers apparently try to threaten you into sending money to illegitimate organizations and Officer Seaton warns to never give any of your personal information to someone over the phone, including your date of birth, social security number, or credit card information.
"They are pretty sophisticated because they have figured out how to counterfeit phone numbers, they have figured out how to counterfeit websites and they can take bits and pieces of your personal information and they can turn it into more so don't release anything to them," said Officer Seaton, with the College Station Police Department.
If you think a scammer has called you, Officer Seaton says to write the caller's name, phone number, business name and address down so you can verify if the business is legitimate.
She also asks that you contact police if you receive any demanding phone calls.
