Progress made on Lake Whitney fire
LAKE WHITNEY -- Crews continue to monitor hot spots at Whitney after a wildfire near the Lake Whitney Dam sparked yesterday.
Almost two dozen fire crews were called out yesterday to fight the fire that torched almost 400 acres, destroying 7 homes, forcing evacuations and closing down schools today due to power outages.
Currently all power is back on and officials say the fire is almost 100 percent contained.
But for now, all the close-knit community can do is pull together.
"We've had an over abundance of people bringing water, supplies in for our firefighters, donations for the evacuees. Everybody in the community and different communities have just been great with this I mean its just heart-whelming," said Debbie Moore of the Whitney Fire Department.
Power has been restored and the city water is back on.
The American Red Cross has set up a shelter for evacuees at Prairie Valley Baptist Church.
The shelter will be open through the night.
