WACO -- The average yearly cost for one homeless person is more than $40,000 of taxpayer's money. That's according to the Heart of Texas Homeless Coalition.
That's one of the reasons non-profits all over Waco gathered today at the Salvation Army to help the homeless get off the streets and on the road to a better life.
Sandra Ramirez has been homeless on and off for years. She says a one-stop shop like this makes it easier for people to get the help they need.
"I've lived in cars. I've lived in vans, and I'm trying to help my granddaughter out with her mom because her mom, she goes to school, and she's a single parent. It is hard being homeless," said Ramirez.
At the event clinics and dentists offered health check ups. Schools, social security and housing organizations were also there to answer questions and get hundreds who showed up back on track.
