Scott & White races to win grant for new children's hospital
TEMPLE -- Scott & White is getting a new children's hospital next fall. In the meantime, they're trying to win some extra money to put toward the project.
They could win up to $250,000 in grant money for the hospital if they get the most votes. It would make it the closest all-children hospital in the area.
Melodee Austin's son has been fighting cancer at Scott & White, and she says they can't wait for the new children's hospital.
"Sick children need other sick children to help their spirits come up. You know, whether it's their wearing a head dress because they've lost their hair, or if it's because they just don't feel well and you can get a little smile," said Austin.
Administrators say a new place is needed so they can focus solely on children.
"To bring something of this caliber to the children of our community would just mean the world," said Director of Development, Lesli Joy Cearley.
Right now, the children are treated in a pediatric facility inside an adult facility. You can help them win the money by clicking here.
