WACO -- If you're going on vacation this summer and you're concerned about leaving your home alone, you can now have an extra pair of eyes on the lookout.
Police are stepping up security for home owners in Waco. They're using the citizens on patrol division to conduct security checks while people are away.
The volunteers are specially trained in the security sweeps.
Fox 44 spoke with local home owners who have used the program before. They say with the recent uptick in crime, it's a must.
"It takes a burden off your mind in the sense that you're worried about someone needs to be checking on the house," says Steve, one local home owner.
"I always keep track of what's going on in the neighborhood, and I think if we all pull together, we can reduce crime," says Michael Varadi.
Several other cities in Central Texas also offer this service, including Killeen and Temple.
