Teen in stable condition after being hit by dump truck

BELLMEAD -- It started as a normal Monday at school in Bellmead, but all that changed when a 16-year old girl was rushed to the hospital after she was hit by a dump truck while getting off the school bus in front of her house on Highway 84 near Selby Lane.
The truck first clipped a Ford Mustang stopped behind the bus but then hit torres which threw her 40 feet in the air and broke her pelvis.
She's now listed in stable condition at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center in the ICU. They are expecting her to be moved later Tuesday afternoon.
State Trooper D.L. Wilson tells us this accident was possibly the result of a careless driver.
"[He] wasn't paying attention. There was a car stopped with its break lights on also on the outside lane and the school bus is painted yellow and the mustang was bright orange. So there's really no reason," he said.
The driver of the truck claims his brakes were faulty.
"The truck was inspected and the brakes were working properly," Trooper Wilson said.
And failing to stop for a school bus is illegal.
"Once the red lights start flashing at the top of the bus, that means you have to stop, meeting or following a bus."
The driver hasn't been arrested but Bellmead police are still investigating.
