TEMPLE -- The Temple Police Department has recently been made aware of a suspect or group using a scam to steal items from elderly persons' homes. They say it involves a current scheme where the suspect attempts to take advantage of elderly residents in south Temple.

Police say the suspect approaches the elderly person or couple at their home and acts like she knows them. She attempts to confuse them and make them feel guilty about not remembering her, gaining access to at least the front entryway of several homes. Once inside, she steals whatever she can that is lying around, such as medications and purses.

Police say the thief gets the victim's name by looking in the mailbox.

Temple police are warning any resident who is approached by a person they are sure is a stranger, or even someone that they do not know very well, should not feel obligated to allow that person entry into their home, and should immediately contact police if the person or persons become insistent or aggressive in any manner.

Anyone with information about this specific suspect is asked to contact the Temple Police Department at

254-298-5500.
