Deer season opens Saturday for bow hunters, and this year's season is expected to be a good one. Hunters can expect good conditions for this deer season. Texas Parks and Wildlife Department says good environmental conditions for the deer made for large populations.
TPWD Natural Resource Specialist, Kyle Melton, says "We should see a quality year this year as far as fawn production, antler size and just body conditions in deer over all." They expect more older-age bucks than last season. That's because last year's restrictions enabled those bucks to carry over to this season.
One hunting supply store owner says her store has had a surge of hunters coming in to gear up this week for the sport that they say is addicting. There are many places to hunt this year in McLennan County. Hunters are allowed to tag five deer this year." Parts of the state are having special antler restriction, and the Army Corps of Engineers has slightly different restrictions than McLennan County.
