The Waco Independent School District Board of Trustees has named Dr. Bonny Cain the lone finalist for superintendent.
Cain has served as superintendent of Pearland ISD, located in a suburb of Houston, since 2000. She holds more than three decades of professional experience in education.
“We are extremely excited to name Dr. Bonny Cain as our lone finalist for superintendent,” said Pat Atkins, search committee chair and board vice-president. “With her exceptional leadership skills and vast experience managing district growth and financial resources, we are confident she will lead our district to even greater success.”
Prior to becoming superintendent of Pearland ISD, Cain served as a deputy superintendent, assistant superintendent for instruction, executive director and principal. She has also held teaching and principal positions at Alvin Community College and Mabank, Dickinson, Alvin and Bay City school districts.
Cain holds a bachelor’s degree in elementary education, master’s degrees in counseling and reading specialization and a doctorate in educational leadership.
“I am honored to be chosen as Waco ISD’s lone finalist for superintendent,” Cain said. “I look forward to working with the board, staff and community to provide students the best education possible while overseeing district resources carefully and effectively.
“While interviewing with Waco ISD trustees, I have clearly observed true commitment and vision as they plan for the district’s future,” she added.
Like Waco ISD, the Pearland school district is a mid-sized district with diverse demographics -- serving just over 18,700 students.
Pearland ISD recently celebrated an Exemplary rating from the Texas Education Agency and the International Baccalaureate authorization of an elementary campus.
According to state statute, Cain will serve as the lone finalist for 21 days. The school board has scheduled a meeting for February 24 to offer her a contract as superintendent of Waco ISD.
