WACO -- After a long six months the debate over campus closures and consolidations in Waco ISD has come to an end.

Last night the school board voted in favor of Dr. Bonny Cain's final recommendation plan.

The nine schools closing are:

Viking Hills, Sul Ross, North Waco and Meadowbrook elementaries, University and Brazos middle schools, the Alternative School and the Stars program.

A new consolidated middle school will open on the current A.J. Moore campus and high school students enrolled at A.J. Moore will be relocated to University High School.

"Now that we know which schools are going to be closed and which will remain open, our job now is to redraw attendance zones so that we're serving the right amount of kids in each of the campuses that are going to be open," said Dale Caffey, Waco ISD spokesman.

The board is also working with staff to place teachers in the most appropriate school possible.
