WACO -- It's been a rough few months for Waco ISD.
"Nobody wants to consolidate schools that's why this is such a bad thing but the only thing worse than consolidating schools is cutting 3.4 million dollars out of our budge," said Dr. Bonny Cain, Waco ISD Superintendent.
And the strain of cutting those millions of dollars has created tension between board members and faculty.
"If you've got four votes next week we'll go along with the program but up until then I think we have the right to object to something that is not, not to our liking and that we, we don't agree with," said trustee Alex Williams.
"We could have been the top, the best childcare center in Waco, Texas if we had the support of all of you," said Pattie with the childcare center.
After months of meetings and public forums, Dr. Cain addressed the board with her final recommendation.
The plan includes closing Sul Ross, North Waco, Viking Hills and Meadowbrook elementary schools and consolidating more than half a dozen other schools.
"The consolidated schools would use resources from the smaller schools more efficiently than the separate schools because all resources are in one place instead of divided," said Dr. Cain.
There are 12 different components to the plan and the board will vote on each one at next week's meeting.
on February 23.
