In Midway, Woodgate Intermediate students have found a way to help students affected by the fires in Bastrop.
A school-wide competition raised nearly $400.
Now the school is donating the funds to Bastrop Intermediate School where they will be distributed to the more than 100 students and their families who lost their homes to the fires.
Woodgate Intermediate Administrative Assistant, Kimberley Keele headed the fundraiser and tells us the kids absolutely understood how important this was.
"I think they really just realized that other people have lost everything... So many kids brought money from their own, Nick for example brought from his own allowance, and came and put the money in, of his own volition,"Keele said.
The money was sent today to Bastrop in the form of gift cards to places like Target and Payless.
