School districts are always trying to find ways to energize students and make learning fun.

At Midway High School in Waco,  they’ve started a program that combines math and numbers with hammer and nail.

It's a two-hour block class called Geometry in Construction. In one class students can earn a math credit and one career skill elective.

Doug Ledbetter teaches the construction side of the class.

“Construction is geometry," said Ledbetter. "Angles, triangles, surface area. Square footage- the whole thing. “

“I hadn’t seen one yet in there that didn’t like it. Maybe 3 or 4 have used a saw before. The other 25 have never done anything," said Ledbetter.

“There’s a girl in there right now using the miter saw and I’m letting her use it because she’s perfect with her cuts.”

The program has received national recognition and is being deemed a success, making Midway HS a front runner in interactive and engaging curriculum.
