McLennan Communiy College has received a 1.3 million-dollar grant from the state to train and develop health care workers for the area.

MCC will be partnering up with Falls Community Hospital, Hillcrest Baptist and the Providence Healthcare network.

Roughly 3,600 new and current workers will receive professional training.

The grant is aimed to upgrade nursing skills, pediatric training and knowledge of specialized hospital equipment.

MCC says the grant will benefit the entire community.

"It’s going to increase jobs. It’s going to increase some of the wages for workers here. Which, in turn, the more money people have in their pockets, the more they are going to spend and it’s going to keep it here locally," said Stephanie Maultsby.

The program will last 12 months.
