Fire crews in Smith County responding to unattended grass fire

Fire officials say the trash that was being burned was illegal trash, such as tires and copper wire.

Environmental services are being called out to investigate the situation and if needed, issues tickets.

Winona fire officials tell Fox 51 that the fire is an unattended control burn that is getting out of control.

We are also told that it was trash that was being burned before the fire got out of hand.

We will bring you more information of this story once it becomes avaliable.

Fire crews in Smith County are responding to an unattended grass fire near Winona.

Officials with the Smith Co. Sheriff's Department tell Fox 51, a passerby noticed the fire and called 911.

It's happening at the intersection of Smith County Roads 366 & 363.

Numerous crews are being called to the fire to assist.

Tonight's winds are not good for grass fires.

They can easily fuel a fire.
