The former vice president of First National Bank in Whitney pleaded guilty on Thursday to embezzlement charges.

Mary Helen "Murty" Lane allegedly stole more than six million dollars from the bank, located in Hill County, over a period of ten years. Documents report most of the money was spent on lavish gambling trips to Las Vegas, Nevada and Shreveport, Louisiana.

Lane was an employee of the bank for 27 years until she resigned in January 2012.

U.S. District Judge Walter S. Smith Jr. set Lane's sentencing date for May 1. For now, Lane is free on a 100-thousand dollar unsecured bond.
