Funeral services have been set for the Baylor University senior who collapsed near the finish line of the Annual Bearathon on Saturday morning.

Daniel Jones, a 23-year-old marketing/management double major from North Richland Hills, Texas, collapsed on Fifth Street near the finish line of the Bearathon, a Student Foundation event that raises money for student scholarships. He was treated immediately by medical personnel on the scene and transported to Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center, where he passed away about an hour later.

Baylor Univesity issued this statement in a campus-wide email: "Because Baylor is such a close university community, we are especially saddened to lose one of our students. Daniel was a bright young man with a strong faith who was very involved on campus as a member of Kappa Omega Tau fraternity and former member of Student Foundation. Those who were close to Daniel knew how he overcame adversity during his lifetime including the loss of his mother at age 11 to a drunk driver.

Our university chaplain has been in contact with Daniel’s aunt and uncle and is at the hospital to provide support for Daniel’s family, friends and classmates. The university will hold a time to gather in remembrance of Daniel within the next few days.

Please keep Daniel’s family and friends in your thoughts and prayers during this very difficult time."

Visitation for Jones will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, March 27, at Shannon Rufe Snow Funeral Home, located at 6001 Rufe Snow Drive, Fort Worth, TX, 76148. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, March 28, at Life Church, located at 7508 Davis Blvd., North Richland Hills, TX, 76180.

Jones' fraternity brothers with Kappa Omega Tau have created a fund to help Daniel’s family with funeral expenses at:
