Head-on collison kills Freestone County couple

A Freestone County couple is dead, following a head on collision near Marlin, late Monday afternoon.

According to DPS Trooper D.L. Wilson, the accident occurred around 3:44 p.m. on FM 147, just east of Marlin. A 2008 Silverado pickup truck was traveling eastbound on FM 147, when the truck came to a curve in the roadway and veered into oncoming traffic. The truck then side swiped a 2011 Kia Rio, just barely making contact.

The driver of the Silverado kept going, and about two car lengths behind the Rio was a 1997 Lincoln towncar, which was traveling west. The Silverado hit the Lincoln head-on when it entered the Lincoln's lane.

The driver of the Kia Rio did not sustain any injuries.

The driver of the Lincoln towncar, Geneva Stone, 73, of Freestone County was pronounced dead on the scene by Judge Maxey out of Falls County.

Stone's passenger, which was her husband, Marvin Stone, 78, was transported by Air Evac to HIllcrest Hospital, where he died shortly after arriving. Judge Decluitt of McLennan County.

The name of the driver of the Silverado, who is from Marlin, has not been released, due to pending investigation. However, she was taken to Hillcrest Hospital by ambulance for possible broken legs and non-life threatening injuries.
