City discusses proposed HEB site

Tuesday, November 27, 2012 - 8:04pm

With roughly 1,500 employees, HEB is the eighth largest employer of Waco residents. And with a new HEB coming, that number will grow.

Waco officials want to make sure the new store won’t suffocate an adjacent neighborhood.

The Waco Plan Commission will meet Monday night to discuss a so-called buffer zone between the proposed
shopping lot and nearby homes on Irving Lee Street.

The city awarded the zoning to HEB but urged the
retail chain to set aside space between the future store and current homes.

The new store will be located just next to the intersection of I-35 and Valley Mills.

And if all goes well
construction should start sometime in 2014.
