Last weeks "brown outs" were caused from an over use of power, during specific hours of the day. To prevent these power outages from happening again, ERCOT encourages people to lower their electricity use from 6-9 am, and 4-8 pm, through the end of the week.

Make sure to monitor the thermostats, keeping them at 68 or lower during the daytime, and 55 degrees at night or when leaving the house.

Avoid running large appliances like washers and dryers during these peak energy times. Close blinds at night to keep the warm air in, and the cold air out. ONCOR says to also avoid using space heaters.

Officials say these energy savers will reduce the risk of electricity emergencies and the need for rotating power outages.
