Local organizations host event’s to honor victims of crime.

National Crime Victims’ Rights Week begins April 10-16, 2011. A local committee has organized different events for the week in McLennan County to show a celebration of compassion and justice for Crime Victims. Involved in the planning are representatives from Waco Police Dept. Victim’s Services Unit, McLennan County District Attorneys office, the Advocacy Center for Crime Victims and Children, the Family Abuse Center, Mother’s Against Drunk Driving, Bikers Against Child Abuse, the Dept. of Public Safety and the 555 Collective.

This year’s theme—Reshaping the Future, Honoring the Past—pays tribute to the millions of crime victims over the decades who have summoned the strength to rebuild their shattered lives, families, and communities, one step at a time. Similarly, it honors the victim service community whose members have walked alongside these victims, responding to their courage with unwavering commitment and skillful guidance.

Calendar of Events:

April 11-11:00am Proclamation by the County Commissioners, Wreath Presentation and Balloon Release at the McLennan County Courthouse (5th and Washington). Light refreshments provided afterwards.

April 12- Pinwheels at the McLennan County Courthouse representing crime victims

April 14- 6:00pm Memorial/Observance-South Waco Community Center, 2815 Speight. Light refreshments provided afterwards.
