WACO -- New numbers released by Centers for Disease Control show sexual violence is at an all time high.
According to the survey more than one in three women have experienced sexual assault, physical violence or stalking by an intimate partner.
One in five women, translating to nearly 22 million women in America, report being raped in their lifetime.
Officials say highlighting the issue may lead victims to seek help.
"I think the surveys are real important for people to understand how common it is and for women who are being abused that there are other women who have, who are in the same situation and that they can seek help," said Kathy Reid, director of the Family Abuse Center in Waco.
The survey also states one in seven men experienced severe physical violence by an intimate partner and one in 71 men reported being raped in their lifetime.
