TEXAS - The TAKS test will soon be no more.
The next generation of student testing in Texas will be called STAAR, standing for the State of Texas Assessment of Academic Readiness.
Texas Education Commissioner Robert Scott made the annoucement last week.
Scott says it will include 12 end of course exams in the four core subject areas of high school.
Officials in the Waco ISD say it will also affect graduation requirements.
This year's seventh grade students will be the first to take the new test.
The new tests will begin for all students next year.
