Waco, Tx — Heavy lifting and lots of sweat, Central Texans know what it takes to keep their bodies in shape, especially if they're going to enjoy some holiday eating.
Local gyms, like Elite Crossfit in Waco, say more people are coming in now to make sure they don't pack on the extra pounds.
"We do have an influx, towards holiday time, especially the first of the year," said Elite Crossfit of Waco Coach Ricky Gore.
A common mistake, Gore says, is that many people think calorie counting will save your wasteline. Instead, he says their gym teaches the 80-20 plan.
"We say you should do your best to eat well 80 percent of the time, but 20 percent of the time you should enjoy life and do what you want," said Gore.
And, if you're nervous you'll over indulge, you can always come in more often.
"I have been working out a little bit more, leading up to the holidays. So, I try to get in maybe four times a week with Ricky, when I can, just so I can indulge a little more," said Crossfit member Catherine Bauer.
The key is routine. The more you burn regularly throughout the year, the more lax you can be during the holidays.
"When you just come in and do a couple workouts right before the holidays, that doesn't really give you an allowance to go and do bad," said Gore.
And remember, lean meats and vegetables are your friends.
