Man wanted for child sex abuse in Temple found, arrested in Atlanta
Temple, TX — United State's Marshall's Service officials have arrested a man, wanted in Temple on child sexual abuse charges.
Arthur Jay Morgan, 51, of Temple was arrested in Atlanta, Georgia on Wednesday. Extradition of Morgan will be arranged by the Bell County Sheriff's Department. No further information about the arrest is available at this time.
Temple police were seeking public’s assistance in locating Morgan at the end of last year. Morgan has been wanted for a felony offense of Aggravated Sexual Assault of a Child.
On Sunday, December 30, Temple police responded to a report of a sexual assault of a child. The 7-year-old victim reported to an adult that Morgan, who is known to the victim, had inappropriately touched the child beneath her clothing. The child further revealed that this had been an on-going series of assaults.
Upon completion of the initial investigation, investigators from the Temple Police Department’s General Investigations Unit presented this case to the Bell County District Attorney, and a criminal complaint was issued against Morgan. Officers then obtained an arrest warrant from Justice of the Peace Officer Barfield for the suspect. However, when they tried to serve the warrant at Morgan’s employer, he was no longer there. Officers have checked numerous locations Morgan was known to frequent, but they have been unable to locate the suspect.
Morgan does have a previous conviction for offenses against children.
