SpaceX's newest rocket engine is ready for liftoff
McGregor, TX — SpaceX’s newest rocket engine has achieved flight qualification.
The Merlin 1D is the fourth generation of the Merlin rocket engine.
Its lighter and is claimed to be the most efficient booster engine ever built.
The engine was tested at SpaceX’s testing facility in McGregor, which is about ten miles outside of Waco.
The Merlin 1D passed a 28-point test and is now ready be used on the Falcon 9 rocket.
SpaceX is a private company contracted by NASA to deliver equipment to the International Space Station.
