One person taken to a local hospital after they were involved in a major accident Friday morning.

At 6:45 a.m., Bryan officers were dispatched to the 500 block of North Harvey Mitchell on reports of a crash. Authorities learned two vehicles were headed southbound on N. Harvey Mitchell when the driver of a car became drowsy and veered into the outside lane, striking the back of a dump truck.

Richard Shafer, the driver of the car, was taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. The 25-year-old was later issued a citation for failure to maintain a single lane. The driver of the truck was not injured.

The area was shut down for about one hour as crews cleaned up debris.
