Waco (KWKT) — A 12-year old boy was found dead after an apparent drowning near BSR Cable Park.
The boy and his family was at the park when he was reported missing on Saturday, shortly before 5 p.m.
Family members went searching for the boy and found his clothing near a swimming area. The sheriffs office was then called out and the Texas Parks & Wildlife Game Wardens assisted with the search. An off duty Waco firefighter found the boy's body under a flotation device around 7:30 p.m.
Police say, the boy died from an apparent drowning. The swim area did not have lifeguards present because it's a "swim at your own risk," area.
The park released an online Facebook post on Saturday stating " BSR will be closed the rest of the night. We had a tragic occurrence at the fun lake and our hearts are very sadden and our prayers are with the family affected. Everyone please pray for this family."
On July 4, the park will be hosting a barbecue cookout to benefit the boy's family. The cookout will begin at 12 p.m. and will last until the end of the firework display.
