18-wheeler knocks out multiple power lines on busy local street
WACO -- A busy street in Waco was shut down for hours today after a semi ran into multiple power lines knocking out power for several nearby businesses.
Just after 11 a.m. Wednesday an 18-wheeler was traveling eastbound on Franklin Avenue when the 56-year-old driver lost control of the truck and struck a utility pole near 23rd Street.
"He continued and hit at least one more power pole, breaking it, caused the lines to drop on the truck, knocked out power, phone, cable in the area. Those lines were still live," said Sgt. Patrick Swanton, Waco P.D.
Oncor was called to the scene and it took several hours to clean up.
The driver was taken to the hospital but is expected to be okay.
