Waco , TX — Two men have been indicted on capital murder charges in connection to the deadly beating and robbery of a 75-year old Chalk Bluff resident.
Jimmie Smith Jr., 58, and Roy Lee Boykin, 44, have been charged with the murder of Albert Kilgo, who was beaten to death in January 2014 in his own home.
According to the McLennan County Sheriff's Department, the two were given shelter by Kilgo before beating him and taking off with his two vehicles.
Investigators in the department were let into Kilgo’s home by family members who said they had not heard from Kilgo in many days. Inside, detectives found the slightly-decomposed body of Kilgo, who according to Chief Deputy Matt Cawthon, often asked people living under overpasses in the Waco area if they wanted to come home with him. The department reportedly had warned Kilgo against the high-risk offerings before. After discovering the body, detectives then located Kilgo’s truck at a motel that Boykin was staying at in Bellmead. Boykin was then arrested shortly afterward. Smith was arrested about a week later.
Both men remain in jail on $1,000,000 bonds each.
